I sought the Oregon State University Dietetic Internship (OSUDI) because it focused heavily on preventative nutrition, something I believe is crucial to our field of dietetics as the United States shifts to a preventative model of medicine. Many people think of preventative nutrition as aiding the next generation in developing healthy habits, however we often forget that we can continue to provide preventative care for the elderly as well, which is why I chose the concentration in senior nutrition care offered by OSUDI.

Key Features of the OSUDI Program:

  • Previously known as the Mid-Willamette Valley Dietetic Internship
  • Program Director: Mary Cluskey, PhD, Associate Professor, Recipient of Excellence in Practice: Dietetics Education Award 2011
  • 1600 hours of Supervised Practice with 9 rotation sites based on selected concentration (community nutrition  or senior nutrition care).
  • Bi-monthly classes in which interns conduct research on a selected topic and present research at the annual Oregon Dietetics Association meeting. (This year's research will be published. For more information, view the "MORE" tab above.)
  • Interns work under the supervision of nationally-recognized dietitians who have contributed to the Nutrition Care Process standardized language, written Practice Papers for the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and evaluated materials for the Evidence Analysis Library.
